Goodbye Schoolhouse

For the past year I have been lucky enough to have a small space at the wonderful Schoolhouse Studios in Abbotsford. This place has become so much more than just a studio, for so many people. 

Two very talented ladies, Elizabeth Barnett and Alice Glenn, launched Schoolhouse in 2011, with the knowledge that the site would eventually be demolished to make way for a new townhouse development.  Since then, many more people have come on board and contributed to the running of Schoolhouse, and it really has developed into a tight-knit community of creative folk. About two weeks ago, we got notice to vacate. It's a bittersweet ending, because although we all knew it was coming, I think in the back of our minds we had hoped that it wouldn't. 

There will be a new premises for the community from Schoolhouse, but the site and the spaces that have become so much a part of our lives will soon disappear completely. 

Easter weekending

We were able to get a couple of nights away over Easter, which was lovely, although short-lived. Still, it was great to get out of the city and just spend time wandering, eating and catching up with friends and family. On the Sunday we took a short drive over to Bells Beach to try and watch some of the surfing, but we were too late so just went for a walk instead, and took some snaps.

Vessel series

These are some works from a series I was working on back in 2011. It was my first real foray into digital prints, and I enjoyed the outcomes. Working with digital media is a part of my practice, although it may not be wholly apparent when looking at most of my prints. The process deliberately gets brought back to analogue form through collage and both lo-fi and traditional printing methods such as solvent transfer or etching.

The bottom work has been selected for the Toyota Emerging Artists Exhibition, which begins at the end of March.

Ngukurr snapshots

Let's try that again...

Last year I started a blog with the intention of creating a kind of internet journal of my artwork and practice. Sadly it fell to the wayside and here I am, roughly a year later, attempting blog number two. Don't expect anything too wordy; I very much like to read other people's words, but feel quite exposed when I put my own out there. To make up for this, I will try my hardest to deliver on the visual side of things. 

Blog number two will begin with an edition I've been working on for the Australian Print Workshop's annual fundraising exhibition, Impressions. It is still a work in progress, but the final work can be seen at the APW's gallery space between the 1st December and the 3rd February, along with work from over a hundred other artists.
